Quick answer to that one.

So, we discussed allusions in class today. I was happy to see the broad range that you guys came up with. Maybe we ought to come up with a way to catalogue them all? We’ll talk about that tomorrow.

If you didn’t have anything to contribute, don’t worry too much. There will be plenty of time to make up the points, but do keep your eyes open. One of the goals for this semester is for us to see how deeply these stories have impacted everything that came after. Use your journals, and if you can grab a picture or bring in a file or web address, that would be great.

We’ll be discussing the end of Book V tomorrow. Make sure your journals are up to date!

Do you have Katherine Black in your class? I would also love to hear more about what is going on with the decussions on your class..I am very much into mythology but at Dove, which I am hopeing to move from here to there, does not allow the decussion on anything that would be remotely interesting and educational at the same time. So please, do post more about class decussions.

Glad to hear from you! I’m still working on an efficient way to get discussion information from the classroom to the blog, but rest assured: the majority of our time is spent in discussion, rather than lecture. We are currently reading Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces. (A seminal work in comparative mythology.) Each student is required to lead the class discussion over a section of the book, using examples from Ovid, classic or contemporary novels, movies, and such to illustrate Campbell’s points.
Be sure to visit us during our open house tomorrow (Thursday the 4th) from 6:30-8PM! More details on the website.
