Themes: Contact Info, Syllabus
Glad you made it to the site okay. Today was a bit of a whirlwind, but we have a lot to do.
Homework:
- Please go to the page above entitled “Tell Me About Yourself†and fill out the form. This will save me much time when I need to get in contact with you or your parents (I email them good things as well as bad, so don’t worry about negative messages).
- Sign up for an RSS feed or email messages under the “Feeds†page above.
- Sign into WinsomeWiki with a username that clearly identifies you.
To find the latest information on your class on this site, go to “Categories†above, then “Courses.â€
Some of you asked about materials for my classes, which I seem to have overlooked in the syllabus. Here’s what you’ll always need:
- The book we are reading as a class (or a personal book if we’re not in a novel at the moment).
- Something to write on, preferably a small bound notebook of some sort, for taking notes as you read.
- Post-its, highlighters, your favorite pen, something to write in your book with.
- Loose paper or a notebook with removable pages, and a pen.
- Any work in progress—this is important; even if the paper or essay is not due that day, I may ask to see how it is coming along. It also helps me answer any questions you may have about the assignment.
As always, send me an email if you or your parents have any questions.

This commercial is very catchy, and will be stuck in your head all day, but is not very effective in explaining what it is marketing. Sort of like the “Buckle Up” commercial.

I saw this commercial during the Olympics and have remembered it ever since, which I’m sure is just what Lenovo was trying to accomplish by making this commercial that catches you completely off guard.

This commercial has some serious ethos goin’ on (aka Bob Dole). It’s pretty misleading but it will have you talking.

This commercial would be catching because it uses a kid daydreaming about stuff like us about what we want.

This commercial would be catching because it uses a kid day-dreaming, like us, about what he wants.

These are 5 loan comerciales. It’s catchy because they’re funny. Their message is that they give you a chance.

This commercial shows characters everyone knows and watched at the time this ad was published. It shows that cool people do it and it’s a good way to take a break. It’s quite effective on displaying what it’s selling by showing the box as well as showing and defining how every cigarette works and feels.

Alec Baldwin is has the credibility of a famous actor, and the product he is advertising is useful because it allows us to watch our favorite tv shows whenever we want.

This anti-smoking commercial is unique compared to other “stop smoking” ads in the way that it does not frighten the smoker into quitting by throwing out all sorts of statistics about cancer and heinous pictures of black lungs and such. Instead, it shows a possible friendly alternative to smoking and many examples of how much better it would be if smoking was eliminated. In this way the message is clearly delivered but not in a forceful way that may make some smokers resentful.
